Breakthrough In Berlin
The battle for Europe is not waged through flesh and blood, but through spiritual powers. One of the weapons used to push back the very powers of darkness is worship of the living God. In September, European Initiative invited Gateway Worship, of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, to hold worship conferences in both Berlin and Warsaw. Through a heightened focus on worship, EI, Gateway, and the host churches, , Gemeinde auf dem Weg in Berlin, and Społeczności Chrześcijańskiej Północ in Warsaw, hoped to see spiritual breakthroughs in both cities. And we did.
Pastors, worship leaders, and passionate believers came from throughout Germany and Poland to attend the meetings in their homelands. They came to the 3-day conferences to be equipped and encouraged as worshippers. The Gateway team, led by several of their staff pastors and popular Christian recording artist Kari Jobe, served the Europeans tirelessly and with excellence. Lives were liberated, hope was heightened, and God was glorified.
The breakthrough we had been hoping for came on the second night of the Berlin conference. More than 1,000 Christians - a huge turnout by European standards - came to worship with the Gateway team. The atmosphere was electric. The normally subdued Germans were full of anticipation, expecting to experience God’s presence.
Something happened during the second half of the worship set. The Germans were truly becoming abandoned to the Lord’s presence in the room, pouring out their hearts in adoration to their God. As they cried out that God would reign in their land, there was a real sense that their song became a weapon, one that was breaking spiritual chains.
The outright passion and earnest seeking of the German believers was something that I had not yet seen since living in Berlin. One German pastor told me, “This was absolutely amazing! I could actually feel chains being broken as we worshiped!” As these chains were broken, God was able to plant seeds deep in the hearts of His people. One seed that was firmly planted was His hope for Europe. God desires to see His children in Europe turned back to Him.
God is not finished with Europe; in fact He is just beginning! This conference was a catalyst that will spark spiritual change. The Lord will reign in Europe!
